McLaren not to use their 2011 Formula 1 car at the first pre-season test session in Valencia
McLaren was clearly one of the best teams of the first half of the 2010 Formula 1 season, however, the second half was a disaster for the team as they lost both, the constructors’ and drivers’ standings lead. Lewis Hamilton led the drivers’ standings until
the Italian Grand Prix where he lost the lead to Mark Webber and was unable to recover from that deficit.
The team was unable to deliver a promising performance after that and since Jenson Button was unable to cope up with the top running drivers, the team relied on the other Brit. Hamilton though, was having a lot of problems with reference to consistency.
As a result, Red Bull took both titles as Fernando Alonso from Ferrari was also unable to maintain his lead at the grand finale in 2010.
McLaren Mercedes decided to shift their focus on the 2011 Formula 1 season after that and it seems that they are satisfied with their new car. The team recently announced that they will reveal their 2011 Formula 1 car on the 4th of February after
the first pre-season test session in Valencia is done.
This means that the team will not use their new car at the first test session unlike one of their rivals Ferrari. It seems that McLaren wants to follow its “trend” of revealing their new car after the rest of the teams have already revealed their respective
cars.
Red Bull Racing Team also announced recently that they will reveal their new car in Valencia but they might not take part in the test session.
The MP4-26 on the other hand is going to be a spectacle according to team McLaren and it would be interesting to see how McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull play with their 2011 chassis since KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and adjustable rear wings will
be allowed for this season.
Nevertheless, the 2011 Formula 1 season is definitely going to be interesting because of the major changes in the rules and regulations and it would be interesting to see how the teams deal with these changes.
McLaren will reveal its new car in Berlin after the first pre-season test session in Valencia ends.
