McLaren ongoing issues will not affect future negotiations with Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that the ongoing issues faced by team will not have any effect on the future negotiations with their driver, Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to expire at the end of this season and there have been many speculations that he may leave his current team.
Moreover, he has only been able to score 4 points in the last two grands prix. He had a collision with Pastor Maldonado of Williams in the European GP held at Valencia Street Circuit and struggled with the lack of pace in the British GP at Silverstone Circuit.
However, Whitmarsh expressed that the ongoing difficulties will not influence their conversations with the British driver about his future in the team.
In addition, he said that the competition is very tight in this season as all the teams have been trying their best to make the significant preparations and have made some crucial progress with their cars.
Moreover, he said that they are aiming to keep on making the substantial advancements so as to improve the pace of their car for the upcoming races.
“No, I think he's smarter than that. He's got to want to be at this team, which I believe he does. He knows that racing has highs and lows, and this hasn't been one of the highs as a weekend. Four weeks ago it was a different situation and in two weeks'
time it could be a different situation again. He knows that, I know that and we're disciplined enough and battle-hardened enough these days to know that. We will continue to develop the car and make sure we do better job in two weeks' time,” he said.
The 2008 world champion is presently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 92 points. Besides, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Above and beyond, it will be very interesting to see how the Briton performs in the German GP which is going to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
