McLaren optimistic about updates for Korean GP
A very awe-inspiring and nerve tickling formula One season is ready to take its final twists and turns. The seventeenth race of the season is to be held this Sunday at the newly built circuit of South Korea.
Although, there had been a lot of speculations and uncertainties in the past few months regarding the track as its construction work was immensely delayed. However, the country is ready to hold the first round of the highest ranking auto-racing series of
the globe on its soil.
As the caravan now prepares for the round, intrigue and thrill keeps on mounting amidst the teams as well as the race fans. The season has already served up a big share of surprises and uncertainties right from its start as the top five drivers and the top
three teams kept coming back to the battle over and over again, even though their probabilities kept changing every now and then.
One of the leading teams of the season, McLaren embraced a poor Sunday at the Japanese Grand Prix, which has badly faded their chances for the World Championship. Yet, the team is adamant to keep fighting till the very last episode of the season to be held
in Abu Dhabi.
Now as they prepare to go for the Korean Grand Prix next Sunday they talked to the press expressing their fears and aspirations for the next round.
The title defender, Jenson Button, who currently stands at fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship with 189 points, proclaimed, “It’s always exciting visiting a new circuit for the first time. The Korean track certainly looks very interesting - a real mix
of different characteristics - and there appear to be a couple of very likely opportunities for overtaking, particularly at the end of the three main straights, but possibly also off-line in the twisty final sector”.
Moreover, he said that since the track has just been completed there might be some unexpected issues but the teams as well as the drivers are ready to work closely with the organisers to help ensure the event run as smoothly as possible.
He also sounded very confident as he said that the team has come up with several modifications to the car. They actually had to bring these improvements at Suzuka, however, several unfortunate incidents prevented the team from doing so. Now they are ready
to run these new parts on Friday in Korea hoping that they would be far more competitive now then seen last week in Japan.
On the other hand, the 2008 champion and McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton revealed that he has already driven at the Korean International Circuit on the simulator and he has been very happy with what he saw there.
He further added that theoretically the track is to suit their car quite well especially the first sector that has some long straights offering high speeds and strong performance. However, good brakes and a strong car control would be needed and both these
characteristics are already present with their MP4-25.
While talking about the track he further said, “I think it’ll reward commitment - it actually feels like quite a nice driver’s track. The end of the lap is slower and tighter, but it’s still all about rhythm and flow - so, as long as the track surface is
nice and grippy, I think we’re set for an enjoyable first race in Korea”.
The driver, who is suffering from a real poor luck lately, is now looking forward to a better race weekend ahead as this race might turn out to be his last opportunity for the 2010 title.
