McLaren prepared for a strong tussle at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1
McLaren is prepared for a strong tussle at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix which is going to be held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia this weekend.
After dominating in the first GP at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia last week, McLaren feel confident for the second race with its pair of drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton showed an impressive performance at qualifying on Saturday and secured the pole position. However, he could not convert his pole into a victory which was claimed by the other British driver and his teammate, Button.
Furthermore, on winning the first race, Button said that he felt encouraged with his performance and asserted that the victory had given them the desired start for the season.
Nonetheless, he said that there would be a close fight amongst the rivals in the next race this weekend and they were ready for it.
“I think the race showed that there are several top teams in Formula 1, and I think we can expect them to be fighting for victory in Malaysia. Both Red Bull drivers were very quick in the race, and I think we can expect further strong challenges from Mercedes
AMG and Lotus this weekend. Of course, we're not relaxing - and we go to Malaysia ready for a strong fight,” said Button.
McLaren had the most successful pre-season testing programme this year and had been deemed as one of the most favourite teams for this season’s championship title.
In addition, Button’s teammate Hamilton, struggled during the last season and could not be able to perform at his best because of clash between the private and professional life.
Nevertheless, the 2008 world champion has expressed that he was ready to make the necessary sacrifice in his personal life this year in order to give due attention to his career in F1.
Moreover, Hamilton insisted that he was very confident for the second GP after his third finish at the season opener.
“It's encouraging and reassuring to understand the reasons for our race pace in Australia, and it puts me in a really positive frame of mind for the race in Malaysia,” said Hamilton.
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh was pleased with their performance at Melbourne during the last week. He added that they were happy with their car’s development which had proved out to be quite successful.
Besides, he said that they expect to have a tight match with their rivals, particularly Red Bull Racing and Mercedes AMG, who would surely come prepared for the battle in the next race at Sepang circuit this weekend.
Furthermore, he said that it would be quite interesting to see how the season unfolds itself in future.
