McLaren ready to give Lewis Hamilton a proper farewell – Formula 1 news
The team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh, has promised to bid a proper farewell to their driver Lewis Hamilton after he decided to join Mercedes next year.
Hamilton had made his decision to leave the team at the end of last month. The driver made his debut with McLaren in 2007 and signed a contract with them which is due to finish at the end of the current season. While still driving for McLaren, he was successful
at becoming the world’s youngest Formula 1 champion in 2008. Hamilton had to face some very bad luck at the recent Korean Grand Prix where he suffered a car failure and he barely finished tenth scoring just a single point.
As soon as the driver revealed his decision to quit the team, Whitmarsh accused him of making a huge mistake. The team principal believes that any driver who aspires to win should not make the mistake of leaving the team and insists that Hamilton will not
be able to enjoy the same success at Mercedes as he has at McLaren. Although Whitmarsh has been greatly impressed by Hamilton’s will not to give up when he was having a hard time at the Korean GP. As Hamilton retains his decision, the team is ready to see
him off on good terms.
“Of course people were disappointed to lose someone like Lewis but Lewis has been here a long time and everyone is going to be giving everything for him.” Whitmarsh told Reuters. “One way or another I'm sure we'll get together and remember lots of fantastic
achievements, many race wins, many poles, many great races and a great World Championship in 2008. He's loved in this team and he knows that.”
Hamilton’s current teammate Jenson Button has denied rumours that there is anything wrong between Hamilton and him. He said that even though his teammate has a right to decide for his own career, he personally does not support his decision. He insists that
they still have a good working relationship.
Hamilton has also imitated Button’s comments regarding his relationship with him. He has told that they are fantastic teammates. McLaren is set to replace the driver with Sergio Perez of Sauber.
