McLaren ready to keep fighting until the end of the 2012 F1 season – Formula 1 news
The sporting director of McLaren F1 team, Sam Michael, has promised that they will not give up and fight until the end of the season despite their gradual regress.
The McLaren team has not been performing well in the last few races due to which they have not only moved back down in the constructors’ championship losing their second position to Ferrari but has also put an end to their driver Lewis Hamilton’s title dream.
The last Grand Prix in Korea witnessed the team battling against bad luck. Hamilton himself had to suffer from an anti-rear roll bar failure while teammate Jenson Button’s chance to progress through the race was ended by Kamui Kobayashi in the opening lap.
Despite his car failure and added difficulty by the Astroturf lodged onto it, Hamilton had refused to give up and kept struggling throughout the race and was able to finish in tenth position scoring a single point for McLaren. Team principal Martin Whitmarsh
had immensely appreciated the driver’s effort and stated that this was the most well earned point for them ever.
The team is still very determined in its effort to come out on top. Michael says they will be trying to win all of the upcoming races.
“We're going to push to the end - our target at McLaren is to win every race, and we'll do our best to achieve that,” he said.
He thinks that Red Bull has taken a huge leap in the last few races and they might be tough to compete against but that will not be stopping them from trying.
“The gaps are very small now, so it only takes one or two tenths to swing from one way to another, and that can be driven off [one team's] development working, or another team not bringing enough. We do believe we can take the challenge to them; we are turning
up trying to finish first and second in the last four races,” Michael added.
The team is already working on developing the car for their next season while they will be losing Hamilton as he transfers to Mercedes.
