McLaren team which has been seen struggling in the last three races seem to come up strong in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
McLaren are undoubtedly one of the most competitive contenders in 2012 F1 championship as they have a perfect blend of expertise and a pair of world champion drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
The Woking based team is presently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Additionally, they are 38 points behind the defending champions, Red Bull Racing and 22 points ahead of Ferrari and Lotus.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 63 points. Moreover, he is 4 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and 10 points behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
Furthermore, the 2008 world champion has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far as he secured third podium finish in the first three grands prix out of which he claimed pole positions in the first two of them.
However, he struggled with the poor pit stop strategy in two of the last three races due to which he could not convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in either of them as he lost some crucial time.
On the other hand, his teammate, Button is currently at seventh place between Lotus drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen, in the drivers’ rankings with 45 points.
The 2009 world champion took an amazing victory in the season opener and secured an incredible second podium finish in the third race. Contrarily, he has only been able to score 2 points in the last three races as he faced issues with the tyre management
and car’s setup.
Nevertheless, he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching race while he said that his target is to show some good pace during the qualifying so as to start the race from a competitive grid position.
It will be important to mention that the managing director of McLaren, Jonathan Neale has said that they are trying their best to rectify the mistakes which they have committed in the last few races. He also said that they are making the substantial developments
and the essential preparations in order to improve the pace of their car so as to make their position stronger in this year’s championship.
“We've made some operational mistakes in Bahrain and Spain and obviously we need to eliminate those,” he said during a Vodafone phone-in. “In Formula One, you make the slightest slip and you pay a heavy price for it, but that's why we love the sport. You
have to be good at everything. The car definitely has the pace and the upgrades are coming through thick and fast. But it is very tight. We've got to be more consistent. But I'm confident that the pace is there and we'll continue to push hard with our upgrade
packages.”
