McLaren set to feature new front wing and nose for upcoming 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they are ready to come up with a new front wing and nose in MP4-27 in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
Whitmarsh said that there are many things to look for and asserted that they have been striving at their best to make the essential developments and the substantial preparations to enhance the pace of their car for the upcoming races.
He added that they have made the essential evaluations of the updates in the car and have gathered some crucial information about its setup during the three-day test held at Mugello circuit last week. He also said that they are looking forward to perform
well in the next race with the upgrades.
“I think you may well see it this weekend, yes,” Whitmarsh said. “So there's a range of things, I think we're continuously developing the car so a lot of what we were doing was gathering information. It's unusual these days of course to have an in-season
test, so we felt we had to use that to gather lots of data and I'm sure aside from the nose that you saw there were all sorts of appendages, sensors and equipment fitted to the car over the course of the three days as I'm sure you saw.”
Besides, he said that the aerodynamics play an important role in the overall performance of the car while he said that they are aiming to see some improvements in the car’s pace in the approaching race.
The Woking based team is currently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 92 points. Moreover, they are 9 points behind the defending champions, Red Bull Racing and 35 points ahead of Lotus which has emerged as one of the most competitive
teams in this season.
Over and above, with their pair of talented and experienced world champion drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button who are presently at second and fourth position in the drivers’ standings, they can be deemed as one of the most favourite teams for this
year’s championship.
