McLaren spokesman claims Jenson Button’s knee injury not a concern for Silverstone – Formula 1
McLaren have assured that the 2009 Formula 1 world champion will be perfectly fit for the upcoming British Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Jenson Button had his knee slightly injured in a shooting event recently and did not drive the Formula 1 car in the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Instead, Button drove the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 and MP4-12C road car.
This provoked the media to say that Button is not fit for the upcoming race in Silverstone, which is also his home race.
However, the McLaren camp said, “Jenson drove a McLaren MP4-12C road car and a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 race car at Goodwood yesterday. He didn't drive a McLaren Formula 1 car, for purely precautionary reasons, in order to protect a small bump he'd received on
his left knee during a jet ski event in London last week.”
Button himself stated that he is perfectly fine for the Silverstone race to be unfolded from the Friday Free Practice session from July 8, 2011.
“Just got a little niggly pain and it's not worth pushing it, I want to relax it for the Silverstone grand prix and that's the only reason. It's all fine,” commented Button.
The Brit is the second driver behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the 2011 drivers’ championship battle with a 77-point deficit. He is the only one who can challenge Vettel for the 2011 title.
Button has scored 109 points in the first eight races of the 2011 season. The Brit won the Canadian Grand Prix in the final lap after a gruelling battle with Vettel. Apart from that, Button has been in the top ten drivers in all the eight races of the season
so far.
Although the McLaren camp and Button deny any serious issue but whether the Brit will be able to take part in the Silverstone race remains a question mark.
