McLaren sporting director Sam Michael feels pleased with team’s progress – Formula 1 news
McLaren sporting director Sam Michael has said that he is extremely pleased with the progress which the team has made in developing the car MP4-27 in the season so far.
The Woking based team is currently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 193 points. Moreover, they are just one point ahead of Lotus and are behind the defending champions, Red Bull who are leading with 246 points.
Furthermore, after the most successful pre-season testing programme, they emerged as one of the most favourite contenders in the current season’s championship. However, they struggled with the issue of limited pace in the European and British grands prix.
Nonetheless, they returned well in the German GP in which their driver, Jenson Button secured an incredible second podium finish. Later on, in the Hungarian GP, Button’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton scored an impressive victory after claiming the pole position.
Michael said that their aim is to keep on making the essential advancements in their car throughout the season ahead so as to win this year’s championship battle. In addition, he said that they are focussing to perform even better in the forthcoming races in order to reach to the top of the constructors’ standings.
“That's our target. Yes we brought upgrades to every race, we took some big ones to Hockenheim and some small ones to here but still important and our target is to keep pushing for rest of the season on this. I think we'll need it to be competitive in championship; we are behind at the moment and our job is to get back in front and we have a fast enough car to do that at the moment,” he said.
Besides, he said that although they have a very tough competition with Lotus at the moment, nonetheless, he asserted that their main focus is to improve their own performance. Over and above, he said that they are looking forward to enjoy the summer break and will continue making the required step ups in the upcoming season.
“We have a holiday now with two weeks for everybody so it's a good way to go in to it,” he added.
