McLaren sporting director Sam Michael insists right setup is crucial for success – Formula 1 news
McLaren sporting director Sam Michael believes that the right setup is crucial to achieve good results in the 2012 Formula 1 season ahead.
Michael said that they have a very competitive car as they had the most successful pre-season testing programme this year. However, he said that it is very important to find the right setup for the forthcoming races to attain better results.
“I think it's all part of the game we're in at the moment, and it's extremely tight. So setup has probably become more important now than what it was in past,” he said. “If your setup was out by couple of tenths previously but you still had a second over
rest of field it wasn't as critical because it wasn't first order.”
In addition, he said that they have been trying their best to make the considerable step ups to enhance the pace of their car in order to strike back in 2012 German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
It will be important to mention that the Woking based struggled with the lack of pace because of limited downforce and poor tyre management during the British GP and their world champion pair of drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button could not scored
the desired points for the team.
Nonetheless, they are not feeling upset over the uncompetitive performance in the preceding race and are positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead.
Besides, Michael said that their main aim is to increase the downforce for which they are making the best of the efforts. Additionally, he said that they are also pushing hard to create sound understanding about the Pirelli compound tyres to bounce back
in the approaching races.
He added, “If you look at last competitive dry session we had in Q2 in Valencia there was 0.29s across 13 cars. So that tells you F1 is extremely competitive right now and we're searching for those last little tenths”.
Over and above, it will be very interesting to see what all the contenders come up in the race ahead.
