McLaren still up for the battle
The McLaren team Principal Martin Whitmarsh warns the other teams and the race fans for underestimating any of the two team drivers. He believes that both, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button should not be underwritten as still they are very much in the running
for the title and are capable of pulling rabbits out of their hats when needed.
The Formula One 2010 season is yet to see three more races, the next one to be held is in South Korea, during the forthcoming weekend. The caravan now prepares for its next rendezvous ready to unfold yet another thrilling and adventurous episode of the very
awe-inspiring and nerve wracking season.
After a very unfortunate round at the Suzuka track in Japan last week the chances of the British team seemed to be fading away. However, Whitmarsh is still extremely confident as he proclaims that they are still standing right in the middle of the battlefield.
The World Champion of 2008, Hamilton who had been at the top of the points’ tally till the last few races, has now slipped to fourth place in the charts. The last few races of the season has come with very little luck for him as he failed to finish in three
of the past five races while the last one held in Japan saw him hardly at fifth place, after going through a series of mishaps at the practice session as well as on the final race day.
Being short on luck lately, the driver timidly stands at fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship with only 192 points, 28 points adrift the Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who leads the charts. On the other hand, Button has only been able to bag 189 points
and has settled himself at 5th place.
Despite the shaky position of the team in the championship both the drivers as well as the team principal is reluctant to give up. They strongly believe that the fight would continue till the very last race scheduled to be showcased in Abu Dhabi.
A very big reason for Whitmarsh’s faith in his team is the past performance of the drivers. Both the Red Bull drivers, Webber and Sebastian Vettel, who currently stand at first and third place in the points’ tally, lack the experience of a Championship battle.
This season has seen Webber at the peak of the charts for the first time while Vettel is comparatively an inexperienced driver for the series and has not gone through such an intense pressure before.
On the other hand, the McLaren pair has gone through all this before as well. Button, who is the title defender this season, raced brilliantly last year with Brawn GP as the team bagged both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championship.
While Hamilton has stayed at the top of the charts since he stepped in the Formula One series. He ended his debut season at 2nd place, while he won the title the very next season in 2008. Despite having an average season last year, he came back
with a roar, right from the start of the 2010 season standing at the top of the tally for a long period. However, the poor fate encountered by the driver during the past few months brought him down to fourth place in the points’ tally.
Whatsoever, the McLaren team principal is still very confident for the chocolate skinned Hamilton and the dashing Button.
While talking to the media earlier this week Whitmarsh said, “With three races remaining, and 75 points on the table for the drivers, it would be unwise to write off Jenson, Lewis or Vodafone McLaren Mercedes".
He continued by saying, "Both drivers have won world championships before - they understand the difficulties of such a unique situation, and both have learned how to deliver their best under high pressure. They will be ready for this battle and it's a battle
that will doubtless be won by consistency”.
