McLaren target to reduce gap to the front with aggressive development strategy – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they are aiming to reduce gap to the teams in the front with their aggressive development strategy ahead of the summer break.
The Woking based team came with some important updates in MP4-27 during the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit. However, their drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button struggled in the dry conditions on the race day and could not attain competitive
results as they didn’t get the expected boost in the car’s pace.
Nevertheless, Whitmarsh said that they are focussing to perform well in the German and Hungary grands prix and have planned to come up with some essential upgrades in their car so as to achieve good results. Moreover, he said that they will keep their advancement
strategy aggressive in the season ahead to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.  
“Of course, after Silverstone, our focus immediately turned to Hockenheim, which, along with Hungaroring in Budapest, will bring the curtain down on first half of the season at the end of month,” he said. “There is a huge resolve within the operation to
ensure that our aggressive development strategy is upheld across summer: we are determined to narrow gap to the championship leaders before the start of summer break.”
In addition, he expressed gratitude on behalf of his team towards the fans for their love and support during the home race.
“Silverstone was a difficult weekend for us made better by observing at close-hand depth of loyal support all around the circuit for Jenson, Lewis and the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team,” he said.
McLaren are currently standing at 4th place in the constructors’ championship with 142 points. Besides, they are 44 points ahead of Mercedes and just 2 points behind Lotus.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is at 4th position in the drivers’ rankings with 92 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
On the other hand, Button is presently at 8th place in the drivers’ standings with 50 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Let’s see how they perform in the forthcoming race which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
