McLaren target two-second pit stops in 2013 – Formula 1 news
McLaren sporting director Sam Michael has said that they are targeting to achieve two-second pit stop on regular basis in the 2013 Formula 1 season so as to attain a competitive advantage over their rivals.
The Woking based team set a tremendous record of 2.3 seconds pit stop in the German Grand Prix which gave their driver, Jenson Button a great advantage over his opponents and he secured second podium finish.
Michael has said that after setting the record pit stop in this season, they are looking forward to make the essential preparations during the winter testing so as to improve their time a little bit more in order to come up even stronger in the next season.
“We'll be really busy this winter taking the next step along that idea,” Michael told Autosport. “Our target for next year is two-second pitstops. We thought we'd get down to it this year. We can do it.”
Furthermore, he said that they have planned to make some technological advancement in the operations for the coming year to achieve their goals. He also said that they are aiming to make the best use of the technology to attain competitive results in the
next season.
“Our target is to get there during the winter so that two-second pitstops are normal rather than flash in the pan. That involves people and equipment,” he said. “We've got a few technology changes for next year, but already compared to our preparation for
first race next year will be completely different from this year.”
“Our target is to start off there right away in Melbourne,” he added.
The British squad faced some technical and tyre management issues in many races which hindered the performance of Button and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton. Nonetheless, they are not feeling upset over their results and are positively eying to fight back in
the next year.
Besides, it will be important to note that McLaren has signed a new contract with Sergio Perez as Hamilton is going to join Mercedes in the coming year. Let’s see how the 2009 world champion performs with his new teammate in the next season.
