McLaren targeting more updates for Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren sporting director, Sam Michael has said that they are targeting to introduce some more updates in the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix to improve their performance.
The Woking based team remained unable to take a competitive start to this season and has struggled with some huge reliability and tyre management issues. Despite facing problems in some races, Michael has said that they have made some clear progress. However,
he insisted that their development process has been a little bit slow as compared to their rivals because of which they have lost some crucial points in the championship fight.
Nevertheless, he said that they have planned to introduce some updates in their car in the forthcoming race and are hoping to see improvement in their pace. Besides, he expressed that their recent updates have paid off well in the preceding race held at
Circuit de Monaco in which their driver Jenson Button secured sixth place finish after qualifying for 9th grid slot.
“I would say that the more parts we are putting on the car are to investigate different things rather than a comprehensive update,” Michael told a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in. “I wouldn't describe it as that; I would describe it as small steps in
right direction. The last few small steps we have put on the car have worked and as long as we keep doing that then we'll gradually keep moving toward the front.”
In addition, he said that their performance has been quite good at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the past, so they are eying to come up stronger with some more step-ups in the approaching race.
“I think Montreal is a track that has been quite good to McLaren over the years and we will go there with some more things to investigate and try,” he added.
Presently, the British squad are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind Force India who have been quite impressive in the season so far.
Let’s see how they perform in the upcoming race and whether they will be able to resolve their reliability issues or not.
