McLaren team boss, Martin Whitmarsh: Naturally optimistic for upcoming season
McLaren team boss, Martin Whitmarsh dismissed all the speculations regarding the team’s new car MP4-26. He is convinced that McLaren is moving in the right direction and in little time the pre-season troubles would be over.
Many of the Formula 1 analysts believe that the team does not have a strong car this season. Both the team drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton also expressed their concerns for the pace and reliability of the new car.
The McLaren ace driver, Hamilton, voiced his fear earlier this week. He very clearly stated on Wednesday that if a race was held now, the team car was not at all in the position of being at the front. He believes that MP4-26 needs a lot of upgrades before
it can be competitive on the track.
However, when the famous F1 pundits, Martin Brundle, David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan called the car a complete ‘mess’, Hamilton dismissed such comments. He insisted that with every passing test, the car was improving and some upgrades were further lined
up, which would soon improve the car further.
McLaren has always been famous for its competitiveness and fighting spirit. In the earlier seasons as well, the team had turned out to be far better during the mid-season, than in the beginning.
Above all, the team boss, Whitmarsh is known for his naturally optimistic attitude. For him all wrongs could be righted, and once again he believes that all will eventually turn out to be better.
He told the reporters, "For this year it's simply too early to say anything definitive about the MP4-26, or indeed about any other 2011 Formula One car. Suffice to say we've had a few reliability issues during testing so far, but we're confident things are
going in the right direction now."
He further added, "I'm sure there'll be plenty of surprises in store, and to be frank it'll be good for the sport if there are."
The first race of the season is only around the corner and in a little time, the true pace of all the teams will be revealed. The season opener, Australian Grand Prix, is scheduled to be held in Melbourne on the 27th of March.
