McLaren team considers it to be a do or die situation
The upcoming Korean Grand Prix is expected to play a very decisive role in the 2010 Championship. At this time when all the other teams are very concerned and nervous, the British team, McLaren also waits for its fate to be decided
by the end of this week. They currently lie at a very crucial stage of the championship, as their hopes of winning the title, although have not completely died away, yet the chances are little.
The last few races of the season have seen the team perform poorly majorly due to bad luck. Especially the team driver Lewis Hamilton has been facing a rough patch as he had to retire in three of the last five races.
McLaren currently stands at second place in the Constructors’ Championship with a total of 381 points. While on the other hand, the points tally is led by team Red Bull that has bagged 426 points so far in the past sixteen races.
Another strong team of the season Ferrari follows them for the third place with 334 points. Moreover, both the drivers of McLaren, Hamilton and Jenson Button stand at 4th and 5th places with 192 and 189 points respectively.
As the teams now head for the next round in Korea next week, both its drivers and the team management seem pretty confident that they are going to get their supremacy back once again. The team is confident for a number of reasons,
of which the biggest is their latest update that is expected to be carried in their car at the next race. Although many of the teams halted their upgradations right in the middle of the season yet McLaren continued their upgradation process till the last race.
The Japanese Grand Prix was actually supposed to bring forth their last update but the team was hit by ill-fate last week and could not make updates as they were supposed to. Both the team drivers met accidents in the first practice sessions of Friday, due
to which they could not carry this practice and reached at the second practice when half of it had already passed. The heavy rainfall of Saturday morning kept the cars from coming out on track for the third practice or qualifying session. Owing to such problems
the team was not successful to the have the maximum benefit from the updates in Suzuka.
However, as they now head for the next race they are expecting to get maximum out of their car as they have already had been struggling because of less competitive pace all through the season.
Moreover, the Korean track is a new one; all the teams are equally blank and unfamiliar of the track so one cannot certainly say which team will dominate.
Furthermore, both the Red Bull drivers, who stand at first and second place in the tally, have indulged in this kind of crucial battle for the first time as none has ever won a championship. On the other hand, both two McLaren
drivers have a psychological advantage. Button is the title defender of this season as he had a brilliant victory last year after being able to win six out of the first seven races of the 2009 season. On the other hand, Hamilton has made a very good repute
by staying at the top since he joined Formula One in 2007. He ended the first season at second place while the very next season he bagged his first Formula One championship, making the record of becoming the youngest World champion in 60 years.
Only three more days are to go and the first race on the Korean soil would be ready to decide the fate of the team.
