McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh aims championship title – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they are fully focussed to fight for the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship title.
Whitmarsh said that he is very much pleased with the performance of his team in the first half of the season. He said that even though they faced aerodynamic and tyre management issues in few races due to which they could not attain the desired scores. However,
he said that they didn’t get upset and made a striking comeback in the Hungarian GP in which their driver, Lewis Hamilton scored an amazing win.
Furthermore, he said that they are planning to show up even stronger in the forthcoming races with the essential updates and are eagerly looking forward to fight for the title.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to close the gap to the contenders in the front and are aiming to win the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ titles this year.
“Following the mandatory factory shutdown, we're fortunate to have had two full weeks available to prepare ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix,” Whitmarsh said. “As usual, we're heading into this double-header hopeful of closing the gap to the leaders in both
the drivers' and constructors' championships.”
“Lewis's victory in Hungary certainly provided further proof to us that we can take on the fight for both - and that remains our aim: to win both world championships,” the Briton added.
Presently, the Woking based team is standing at second place in the constructors’ rankings. Although, the leading team, Red Bull Racing have a strong lead over McLaren, nonetheless, the battle is still open and there is a fair chance for the competitive
contenders to become the world champion.
It will be important to mention that the British team had one of the most successful pre-season this year in which they managed to develop a car capable enough of winning the title.
Over and above, Hamilton and his teammate Jenson Button are preparing themselves to deliver their best in the approaching races.
