McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh confident ahead of 2011 Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes team principal Martin Whitmarsh is confident that his team has a really competitive car to take to the 2011 Korean Grand Prix scheduled to take place at the Korea International Circuit, Yeongam.
This weekend’s grand prix holds special importance for the Working-based team for the reason that it will be McLaren’s 700th race, therefore the team is really looking forward to taking part in the Korean Grand Prix.
The Brits are expecting the crowd to be as enthusiastic as they were in 2010 at the inaugural Korean Grand Prix.
The team is currently in a very strong form and the pace of the car is also quite good. With Jenson Button clinching a spectacular victory at the recently held race at Suzuka which placed him second on the drivers’ standings, the team is very optimistic
that they can manage another victory.
Button is aiming to carry forward his momentum into the weekend’s race at Yeongam as well as in the remaining three races which follow.
Commenting on Hamilton, for whom this season has not been so productive so far, Whitmarsh said, “Lewis, too, is keen to convert his pace into a strong result, he showed at both Singapore and Suzuka that he had the pace to put the car on pole position, but
was unlucky to lose out for a variety of different reasons. It seems like luck is against him at the moment, but, knowing Lewis, he will bounce back stronger than ever.”
The McLaren-Mercedes team is currently sitting at 2nd position on the constructors’ standings with 388 points.
After Sebastian Vettel’s title win at Suzuka, the team is bent upon clinching the 2011 constructors’ championship.
Let’s see how the team performs at the Korean Grand Prix which commences this weekend, with the first free practice session scheduled for Friday, October 14, 2011. The main race will take place on Sunday, October 16.
