McLaren team principal Whitmarsh expecting an ‘electrifying’ 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has recently stated that he is expecting an ‘electrifying’ 2011 Singapore Grand Prix.
Whitmarsh said he believes that the Drag Reduction System will play a major role at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
“We go to Singapore feeling very encouraged about our performance potential. I also think we're set to continue the trend we've witnessed so far this season, with DRS enlivening races that hitherto would have been somewhat processional,” said Whitmarsh.
Since the Marina Bay is a street circuit, it is believed that it the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix is going to be a very different race than the last couple of events. It is going to offer a more versatile experience for both the teams and the fans.
“At Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, the reality is that we're fortunate enough to have two drivers who are never satisfied to merely sit behind another car; but the addition of DRS means that we should expect some truly electrifying racing this weekend,” said
the team principal.
McLaren are currently in a very vulnerable position as they are standing in the middle of Red Bull and Ferrari. Red Bull are leading the championship by a huge margin and Ferrari are far behind them in the 2011 constructors’ championship.
In the drivers’ standings however, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari is currently in 2nd place in the drivers’ standings and is looking quite good in terms of pace as a result of which it seems that Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton might
have to go through a tough time at the last 6 races of the season.
Hamilton recently stated that he has still not given up on the championship while Button claims that the championship is now out of reach but he will still aim for the best possible results for the team.
It seems that the team is going to aim for at least the 2nd place in the drivers’ standings for one of its drivers and that will be possible only if the team performs consistently.
