McLaren thrash rumours regarding Martin Whitmarsh’s job as team principal – Formula 1 news
Managing Director of McLaren Jonathan Neale has discarded rumours that the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh’s job is in danger.
Neale said Whitmarsh is doing a great job for the team and that everyone at the team is happy with his contribution and for the Formula One Teams Association.
“The right people to ask on that question are the people who wrote the article. Martin has done such a fantastic job for McLaren and for FOTA, and up until the last weekend we were the only ones really putting up a credible fight against Red Bull having
had both of our drivers win races,” said Neale.
Whitmarsh has been criticised as a team principal as he failed to produce a championship winning car and season strategy for the third time in a row and once again, the team has not been able to challenge for the titles actively.
This is the second time that Whitmarsh has failed to do so as a result of which, the critics have been all over him especially after a disastrous British Grand Prix performance which is both the team and its drivers’ home race.
“He is a proven race winner here and championship winner. There are an awful lot of people behind us on the grid that, while they might be looking at some of the heat we are getting in the press, they wouldn't mind a bit of the action that we get,” said
the Managing Director of McLaren.
Other than that, Neale added that he is quite disappointed with how the media is portraying his image. He said that it is pointless comparing Whitmarsh with Ron Dennis, the former team principal of McLaren as both of them are two completely different people.
McLaren definitely need some time to get its grip once again but since the current team boss has a lot of resources and he has worked with the team for a long time now, he should be able to come up with at least a challenging strategy. Let’s see if they
come up with a better plan for the upcoming German Grand Prix set to take place this weekend in Nurburgring.
