McLaren to apply minor upgrades to its car before Turkish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has said that his team is going to bring in a few small upgrades for its car for the upcoming 2011 Turkish Grand Prix.
The team has been performing pretty well since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season with podium finishes at each of the three races so far. McLaren were successful at the Chinese Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton edged past Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull
in the final few laps to win the race.
After the performance, McLaren are now more confident than they were before and are now hoping for even better results in future. McLaren have been the only team so far that has challenged Red Bull Racing Team’s pace while Ferrari and Mercedes GP are struggling
to perform.
Nevertheless, Martin believes that the team has worked really hard in order to obtain these results and the victory at the Chinese Grand Prix was much needed for the team in order to challenge for the championship actively alongside Red Bull.
“Winning in China was a fantastic reward for all the hard effort that's been undertaken both at the racetrack and the McLaren Technology Centre to turn MP4-26 into a race winner. We're excited and encouraged by the pace and consistency that both drivers
have shown in the opening three flyaway races, but the return to Europe brings fresh challenges,” said Whitmarsh.
He added that his team is under no illusions as they are aware of the fact that they need to improve their car in order to progress in the sport and compete for the wins.
“For this race, we'll be evaluating a number of small modifications - which include some aerodynamic refinements to the bodywork - during Friday practice,” he added.
Since there was a gap of 3 weeks between the Chinese Grand Prix and the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix, the team is hoping to modify its car and increase its performance in order to score good results consistently.
