McLaren trying to strike back in 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 season
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh says that their focus is to improve the setup of MP4-27 and to enhance the understanding about the Pirelli compound tyres so as to strike back in 2012 German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July
22.
Whitmarsh said that although they have been struggling with the lack of pace due to poor tyre management and limited downforce in the previous two races. Nevertheless, they are aiming to come up stronger in the race ahead with some essential updates in their
car.
“As you know Formula One changes very quickly and your fortunes can change from being very, very strong in Canada - which we clearly were - to a disappointing couple of last races. I think they were unusual; particularly Silverstone was an unusual weekend.
Our thrust is always to keep developing the car, we've got quite a lot of new components and quite noticeable ones on the car that we will have in Germany.”
Furthermore, he said that all the team members are trying their best to make the substantial advancements and the considerable preparations in order to bounce back in the approaching race.
“I think for everyone - not just McLaren - trying to understand and exploit the tyres correctly is proving quite a substantial challenge,” he said.
In addition, he said that they are going to pursue aggressive developmental strategy throughout the season ahead.
Currently, they are at 4th place in the constructors’ rankings with 142 points. Additionally, they are 44 points ahead of Mercedes and just 2 points behind Lotus.
