McLaren want their drivers to sort out their issues – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has expressed that they want their drivers, Jenson Button and Sergio Perez to sort out the issues between them after their track fight over a position in the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix.
Button and Perez had two very risky contacts in the last race while fighting for a position. The Mexican driver touched the right rear tyre of the Briton on the exit of a corner. Then, just after few laps, the tyres of both the drivers pounded with each
other on the straight line.
After the race, the 33-year-old asserted that the 23-year-old was too aggressive on track and he needs to be more responsible to avoid any harsh incident in the future. He also said that although the young driver has a lot of talent, but he should act more
matured during the race.
On the other hand, Perez admitted that he showed too much belligerence in the Bahrain GP to gain a position over his teammate. However, he asserted that Button was also very aggressive to keep his position.
Whitmarsh has said that the British driver has a lot of experience and he can handle such situations. He also said that they are looking forward to let their drivers talk with each other to resolve the ongoing issues and expect them to perform well as a
team in the season ahead.
“Jenson's a grown-up and he'll deal with it,” Whitmarsh said. “We'll probably get the two together and have a chat to them and let them talk amongst themselves. What happened there hurt both of them in a race to a degree, but that happens if you're going
to let your drivers race. You can't suddenly change your mind on lap 38 and go 'Sorry guys, I didn't mean it', you've got to let it happen.”
Although, he said that there is a little tension in both their drivers over the incident which happened at Bahrain International Circuit, but hopefully it will end up soon as the youngster knows his mistakes and the 2009 world champion is a grown-up.
“There's some tension, but Checo knows what he did and I think with Jenson the great thing is he's a grown-up,” he added.
