McLaren will be the better team in the last four races – Jenson Button
Jenson Button believes that his team McLaren will be more competitive in the coming races than it was at the Singapore Grand Prix and is now feeling confident as he is done with his weakest circuit of the title-run.
The current world champion was not looking as strong as the front runners all weekend during the Singapore Grand Prix and struggled with a lot of oversteer. His performance at the Marina Bay was more than satisfactory as he is now just 25 points short of
the leader Mark Webber and still has a huge chance of winning the title.
“Singapore was always going to be a tough race. The pace wasn't in the car and I wasn't 100% with it, but it was alright and to get 12 points was pretty good”, Button told the
Press Association.
The British driver thinks that his team will be going to Suzuka with a better package as compared to the Marina Bay as it would suite their car more. He said that the team was unable to use a few things on Saturday and Sunday because of some reliability
issues that they tested on Friday in Singapore. Those upgrades might be useful at the Japanese Grand Prix. Therefore, the team is hoping for a better result and Singapore will be labeled as the worst of the final five races for McLaren. Jenson hopes to take
this positive outcome with him to Japan where he aims to put the car on the front row.
The British driver considers the Japanese Grand Prix as his second home race due to the amount of time he spends with his Far East Japanese girlfriend Jessica Michibata. The couple has a busy schedule before the race and the current world champion is excited
about the Japanese grand prix. Jenson will leave for England for a day to spend some time in the simulator at the factory as his “missus” has been invited to Paris for a fashion week where he has to go for a day before he arrives to Japan on Friday. The Suzuka
circuit is very special for Button, as he loves the track.
“If we have a good car around there then it's a lovely place to be competitive. I'm hoping we'll have some good support from the Japanese fans, and with Jessica being Japanese I'm sure there'll be a lot of her supporters there as well”, he said.
Jenson Button is currently in 5th place with 177 points just 25 points behind the current leader Mark Webber in the Red Bull. The current world champion is not looking too bad as 25 points mean that he is a win away from the championship lead.
McLaren is currently in 2nd place in the constructors’ standings just 24 points adrift. His teammate and fellow British Lewis Hamilton is now in 3rd place after two retirements in a row.
He is 20 points behind the leader while Fernando Alonso in now up to the 2nd place in the drivers’ standings after two stunning performances. McLaren is under a lot of pressure as the team has not been able to perform at its best since the past
two races while their rivals Ferrari are at the top of their league currently. Red Bull is going great as well so McLaren will have to step it up if they want to win both of the titles.
Jenson Button joined McLaren after winning the title with Brawn GP in its debut year last season and hoped that McLaren will help him retain his title. The team has been struggling at high-downforce tracks this season but managed to finish strong at the
high-speed low-downforce tracks. This is a plus point for McLaren as they have the most efficient F-duct on the grid and the car might require its assistance in the final four races.
