McLaren working hard to improve race pace in upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that they are working hard to improve their performance in the upcoming races of 2012 Formula 1 season in order to challenge for the championship title.
Hamilton is presently standing on third position in the drivers’ championship with 53 points. Moreover, he is 4 points ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and 8 points behind the leading drivers, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
The 2008 world champion claimed the pole positions in the first two grands prix and secured third place finishes in both the races. Even though, in the third race, he faced five-place grid penalty and started the race from 7th grid position, nevertheless,
he again managed to secure third place finish in the race.
Afterwards, in the fourth race, he qualified for the second grid position. However, he could only secure 8th place finish as he lost some crucial time due to poor pit stop strategy.
Later, in the last race held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, although he topped the timesheets in the qualifying but he failed to meet the requirement of minimum fuel in the car before moving to the pits. Therefore, he started the race from the end
of the grid. Nonetheless, he still came 8th in the race.
Even so, he has not been able to convert his competitive grid positions into a race win in either of the races so far but he expressed that he is not feeling frustrated. In addition, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary preparations
and the substantial developments so as to improve their pace in the approaching races.
“I'm not frustrated,” he said. “This is the way racing goes sometimes. Of course looking at the qualifying results we've had for the five races we would have loved to have finished further up and we definitely need to improve to make sure we stay where we
are or we move forwards. We've started high up and finished a little bit further behind from where we started so we've gone backwards a little bit in most of the races but we're working very hard to make sure that doesn't continue.”
