McLaren’s Hamilton wants to go one place better than he did in Yeongam in 2010 – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes looks forward to this weekend’s Korean Grand Prix at the Korea International Circuit, Yeongam with a clear head and renewed confidence.
He has had a pretty good experience of driving at this circuit in the past. He finished in the second place at the 2010 event after starting 4th on the grid. The Brit, therefore, knows how to tackle the tricky turns as he is aware of the layout and design
of the track.
An optimistic Hamilton said, “I think the DRS zone into Turn Three should definitely make for some exciting racing: last year, the back straight didn’t really produce too much overtaking because it was so wet and there was so much spray by the time we reached
that downhill braking area, that it wasn’t an easy place to pull off a pass. The weather’s supposed to be good next weekend, so I think we’ll really begin to see how this circuit works in the dry.”
The circuit is new to Formula 1 calendar. The 2010 race was the first race ever to be staged on this racetrack. Therefore, whatever knowledge the drivers have at the moment is based on their experience from 2010.
Hamilton’s current season has not been very fruitful. He has been the centre of controversies and media hype and has received criticism from many drivers and race stewards due to his aggressive style of driving. He has been given five drive-through penalties
for his on-track incidents.
He was recently involved in a stormy media hype after his accident with Felipe Massa of Ferrari at the Singapore Grand Prix. The matter was resolved when the Brazilian stepped forward to put an end to it saying that he does not want to drag the matter any
further.
However, at the Japanese Grand Prix, Hamilton again repeated the same mistake of colliding with Massa. This time Hamilton was not given a drive-through penalty an infuriated Massa impressed upon the FIA to review the matter even though Hamilton apologised.
The Brit currently sits at the fifth position on the drivers’ standings with 178 points.
His best performances during this season have been at the Chinese and German Grand Prix, where he won both the races.
With four races remaining before this season ends, let’s see how Hamilton performs.
The next race starts this weekend, October 14-16, at the Korea International Circuit, Yeongam.
