McLaren’s Jenson Button clinches second position in 2011 Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button bounced back to claim the second position in the 2011 Indian Grand Prix held on Sunday, October 30 at the newly constructed Buddh International Circuit.
Button came at the fourth place in the 2011 Korean Grand Prix. After the Korean race, he bounced back on the grid in the recently held Indian race weekend and claimed second position for McLaren in the end.
The Brit talked to the media and said that the Indian race was very different one as compared to other races on the Formula 1 calendar.
The Woking-based outfit driver discussed his Indian race weekend and added that he struggled in the qualifying round at the Buddh International Circuit basically for getting a rhythm for the raceday.
Talking to reporters, he commented, “I had a good start, got past Fernando into Turn One and then it was about judging where to put the car into Turn Three as I had Mark in front that I wanted to overtake but I also had Fernando behind me trying to overtake
me.”
Button went on to mention, “Then Mark proceeded to push me for the next eight laps around the circuit, he pushed me really hard actually. He had a go into Turn Four, we both braked very late, both ran wide, but I kept the position and then I was able to
kick in and pull a gap.”
The 31-year-old driver started his Indian race from the fourth place on the opening grid. He covered two places ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber in the initial stages of the Grand Prix and after trying his best, he ended
up in the second spot ahead of Alonso, who finished his race at the third position.
Button was 8.4 seconds off the pace of Indian Grand Prix winner Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the final race classifications.
After completing 17 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season, the McLaren driver is placed at the second position ahead of Alonso with 240 points in the drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how Button performs in the last two rounds of the ongoing season following his podium position in the Indian race weekend.
