McLaren’s Jenson Button expects five pit stops in 2011 Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has predicted a five pit-stop strategy for the upcoming Korean Grand Prix at the Korea International circuit on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
Button said that the drivers might go to the pitlane five times during the Korean race, taking place this weekend.
The Brit talked to the media and added that Korean circuit is the combination of slow-speed and high-speed corners, which will increase the pit stops there.
Pirelli recently confirmed that the sets of soft and supersoft compounds will be taken for the 2011 Korean Grand Prix.
Pirelli motorsport boss commented, “Korea presents the supersoft tyres in particular with their toughest test of the year, but with the championship decided this is a valuable opportunity for us to try out some alternative nominations in order to have some
more information for next year.”
The Woking-based outfit driver, Button also mentioned that the Korean race will be tough among the drivers on the soft tyres.
He stated, “The softs are pretty tough tyres to do a long run with anyway, so with the supersoft it is going to be interesting. You could see a lot of stops here. We can only have five stops, we can't have any more, but I think we might be using all of them.”
The 31-year-old driver further added that the qualifying round of the 2011 Korean race weekend is going to be interesting, because the drivers do not want to have a flat tyre.
Other than Korea, Button stated that the Indian circuit will be another fast circuit like Suzuka at the moment is 35 degrees, so he is sure the Indian GP will be like Suzuka and even tougher on tyres. Therefore, he added that they have a tough couple of
races coming up in the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team driver did not set any time in the Friday Free Practice session 1 and completed only 1 lap at the Korea International circuit as well.
Let’s see how he performs in the afternoon Practice session taking place on October 14, 2011 at the Korean racetrack.
