McLaren’s Jenson Button happy with third place in Q3 at Marina Bay street circuit – Formula 1
McLaren driver, Jenson Button, has said that he is happy to place third in the qualifying Round 3 at the Marina Bay street circuit on Saturday, September 24, in Singapore.
Button added that he was not expecting his third position in Q3 following his difficult start in the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix but he is happy now with his Qualifier results.
The Brit did not have a good start in the Singapore race weekend, as he lost most of his track time in the first two practice sessions. He finished his first Friday Practice session at fifth place, while he was at the 10th position in the second practice round at Marina Bay.
Button picked up speed in the final Practice session and after struggling with his MP4-26 car he ended his third practice run in second place.
The Woking-based outfit’s driver talked to the media and mentioned that the team made a lot of changes overnight after the second practice session for the rest of the race weekend. In addition, he stated that the car’s pace was good in both practice session 3 and the qualifying round.
Talking to reporters, Button commented, “We found it a little bit difficult in qualifying to get the tyres working for a whole lap: if had them working in first sector they had gone off in third. We had to do a reasonably slow out lap, but maybe I got too excited and pushed too hard in the first sector as the tyres were off in final sector.”
He went on to say, “The worry is tomorrow as haven't driven with heavy fuel. I didn't get much running yesterday, so I am pleased to be in top three and it is a good position for the race tomorrow."
The 31-year-old driver was 0.423 seconds off the pace of Qualifier’s top runner, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, and after putting in a great effort, he secured his third place for Sunday’s race in Q3.
Let’s see how Button performs in the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix following his positive qualifying round at the Marina Bay street circuit.
