McLaren’s Jenson Button says Lewis Hamilton is one of the best drivers of the Formula 1 world
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has spoken in defence of his British teammate Lewis Hamilton who has been criticised by former drivers for his race tactics.
Button added that he has good relations with Hamilton and what Niki Lauda said about him was not true.
Hamilton’s aggressive driving style in the last two races has raised many eyebrows and most recently, Niki said that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) should hand him a penalty before the Brit kills someone with his reckless driving.
Button has defended his teammate’s driving style by saying, “We have a lot of respect for each other, we've raced each other a lot this year, and last year, and we've never touched. Lewis is in the headlines a lot, and a lot of it is because he is bloody
good.”
Button, winner of the Canadian Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season, also added, “I don't agree with what Niki has said. I think his driving style is aggressive and he always goes for gaps. Sometimes he's right, sometimes he's not, but it's the same for
all of us. He just finds himself in that situation more often than others.”
Hamilton has already visited the race stewards five times in the first six races for his on the limit driving which sometimes causes trouble for other drivers.
In the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton tried to overtake his own teammate in the wet conditions and crashed in sidewall, thereby denting his chance to go for the championship in the 2011 season.
Button explained that visibility was poor and Hamilton was squeezing in from the inside due to which the accident took place. However, Hamilton was one of the first people to congratulate Button which cleared the air between them.
Hamilton is now fourth on the championship table with 85 points and Button leads the chasing battle behind Sebastian Vettel in second place with 101 points.
The 2011 Formula 1 season continues in Valencia on June 26 in two weeks’ time.
