McLaren’s Jenson Button says double DRS zone will make 2011 Italian GP interesting – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has predicted that the 2011 Italian race will be very interesting and challenging among the drivers due to the Drag Reduction System at two independent zones of the Monza racetrack.
Recently, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced that the team can use DRS at two different zones during the 2011 Monza race, once at the start-finish straight of the racetrack and for the second time between the Lesmo and Ascari chicane.
However, the team driver said that he is sure the Italian race will be the most challenging race of the 2011 Formula 1 season so far due to double DRS zones.
Button discussed the DRS zones and commented, “The first zone's going to be interesting because it's always been very tough to challenge for position under braking for Ascari – the track's pretty narrow and it's a fast entry – so I'll be really interested
to see how well DRS will work into that corner.”
The 31-year-old driver went on to mention, “I think the more conventional passing opportunity will come from the second DRS zone, getting as close as possible into Parabolica, holding on through the corner and then deploying DRS down the start/finish straight
before, hopefully, passing into Turn One.”
The Brit further added that the DRS will be a major asset for his MP4-26 car in the upcoming race weekend. In addition, he stated that the two-time use of the DRS might shape the 2011 Italian race in some really interesting ways this weekend.
The Woking-based outfit driver is in a competitive form since the last couple of races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. In the last race, Button was 9.6 seconds slow behind the Belgium Grand Prix winner, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. After starting from the
13th place on the opening grid, the McLaren driver ended up on the last stair of the podium at Spa-Francorchamps.
After taking part in 12 rounds of the ongoing season, Button is at the fourth position with 149 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how he manages his race at Monza racetrack on September 11, 2011 in Italy.
