McLaren’s Jenson Button says new track for the United States GP will be brilliant – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button is excited to drive on the new Circuit of The Americas (CoTA) chosen for the United States Grand Prix that takes place this weekend.
The new track is a combination of different elements from other famous tracks like Silverstone. Button is looking forward to trying the new track as the United States GP takes place for the first time after five years.
“The plan-view certainly looks familiar. You can see elements of the Maggotts/Becketts complex from Silverstone; there's a reverse of Istanbul Park's Turn Eight, too; and I can even see a bit of the Hockenheim infield,” Button said. “Whether those elements
will blend together to make a satisfying whole remains to be seen, but there are a couple of long straights into tight corners, too, which should at least open up the possibility of overtaking.”
Button is really thrilled to get on the track and is hopeful of enjoying the race.
“I really cannot wait to get out to Austin and see the city, the people and the track. I think it's going to be brilliant,” he added.
The last United States GP, that took place in 2007 over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was won by Jenson’s teammate Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton has also shared his teammate’s excitement over the new track. In fact he is getting ready to be the first driver
to win a Grand Prix on the CoTA. He admitted he cannot wait to get out there and relive some of the thrilling moments of his past career.
Team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has also high expectations from the McLaren drivers. He says that both of them have even more reason to be determined to perform after having a disappointing and frustrating weekend in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton had failed to finish
the race despite scoring a pole and leading the race.
Mario Andretti, who is a former F1achampion and inaugurated the circuit last month, thinks that it can become a permanent track for the US GP and will prove thriving for F1 future.
Both McLaren drivers have tried the new track using the McLaren simulator and look quite determined to perform.
