McLaren’s Jenson Button scores fastest time in second free practice session in Australia
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button scored the fastest time of Friday during the second free practice session at the Australian Grand Prix and proved that McLaren’s new untested upgrades have proved to be a success for their new car.
McLaren were unable to perform well during the pre-season testing as they claimed that their new car had some reliability issues. The team as a result announced that they are going to take a risk and apply some untested upgrades to its car before the season
opening race that is scheduled to take place on 27 March, 2011 in Australia.
Other than that, Jenson’s teammate Lewis Hamilton scored the second fastest time of the day proving that the new exhaust and floor McLaren applied to their car suit both of their drivers.
McLaren tested their new car with some longer runs during the first free practice session in wet conditions but both of their drivers drove using soft tyres during the second session in order to score the fastest times of the session as the weather got a
bit stable.
Red Bull Racing Team and Ferrari were unable to match McLaren’s pace but Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel scored the 3rd and 4th fastest times of the session just 2 tenths of a second less than Button’s fastest time.
Mark Webber scored the fastest time of the first free practice session but he was unable to score some promising times during the second session as he finished in 5th place ahead of Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa in 6th and 7th
places respectively.
Michael’s teammate Nico Rosberg on the other hand scored the 10th fastest time and was followed by the two Renault drivers Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld who finished in 12th and 13th places respectively.
The qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix is going to take place this Saturday and it seems that the competition is going to be pretty close between Ferrari, Red Bull Racing Team and McLaren.
