McLaren’s Jenson Button unsure about his car setup for Monza – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has recently stated that he is still confused about his car setup for the 2011 Italian Grand Prix which is taking place at Monza this weekend.
“Some of the things we tried on my car throughout the day worked better than others, so we're not really where I feel we ought to be yet, and we haven't yet determined what downforce level to run. I don't yet feel totally at one with the car, but we're working
on it,” he said.
Since Monza is a high-speed track, it does not rely much on downforce as a result of which it is believed that Red Bull Racing might not be so strong this weekend since their car is reliant on downforce.
Either way, Sebastian Vettel topped the second free practice session followed by Lewis Hamilton in 2nd place. However, the surprise of the weekend was that Michael Schumacher was in 3rd place
in the timesheets of FP2 which proves that Mercedes GP are pretty good on high-speed tracks.
“In fact, I think there's going to be quite a lot of data to look over tonight before we choose a direction for the rest of the weekend. Otherwise, there's a fresh surface on quite a lot of the circuit, so there's quite a bit of sliding about, which is tough
on the tyres, particularly over a long run,” said Button.
Lewis Hamilton however might be stronger this weekend since his aggression can be utilised at its best on straights and Monza has the most long straights comparative to any Formula 1 track in the calendar.
The qualifying session is going to be very important for McLaren this weekend and it seems that this might be a very good chance to finally defeat Red Bull in the qualifying session. So far, the Red Bulls are undefeated at qualifying in the 2011 Formula
1 season.
