McLaren’s Jenson Button wary of 2011 Indian Grand Prix challenge and Red Bull’s plan – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that it will be a tough challenge to learn the Buddh International circuit for the 2011 Indian Grand Prix.
The teams only have the simulator to learn the track as this is the first Grand Prix on the circuit, realising that a feel for the track is very important before any race; Button says that it will be a really difficult to race on the circuit without experiencing
it.
“The first time you run on a new circuit is a strange experience because you're piecing together an incredibly diverse and vivid set of data in your mind,” Button said.
“That's quite an intense experience. You're quickly gathering everything together - constantly assessing the grip-level, watching for unexpected bumps, checking the kerb-height, run-off areas, pit lane entry and exit, gradient. And that all happens at about
170mph!”
The Brit gave his views on the racetrack and mentioned that he is looking forward to the turns 10 and 11. He also mentioned that the track has a lot of stop start in the initial part and then has a mix of long straights, corners and tight hairpins, but the
most interesting is the end of the lap, which has high-speed changes of direction.
Button won the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. He is looking to take win the remaining races of the season to maintain his 2nd place position in the championship battle. While Red Bull Racing has shown strong indication of their priority of
making sure that Mark Webber wins the remaining racing to end up 2nd in the standings. Button is 13 points ahead of Webber in the 2011 drivers’ championship at the moment.
Even Sebastian Vettel has shown agreement that he will be helping and willing to give Webber the win if the situation occurs to help him get the second position. This would definitely be in Button’s mind before the race at the Buddh International Circuit.
Now that the pressure of the 2011 world championship title has been lifted, as Vettel took that title after the Japanese Grand Prix.
The next race will take place on October 30, 2011.
