McLaren’s Jonathan Neale: Most important thing for us is to continue winning streak – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s managing director Jonathan Neale has said that the most important thing for the team at the moment is to continue to win more races in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Neale added that McLaren are not in a position at the moment where they can play any kind of safe game in the last eight rounds. In addition, he stated that he believes the next race weekends will be very tough for them. So far in the season, McLaren have
won four races.
The team’s managing director also mentioned that they are still making developments in their MP4-26 car for the remainder of the season. However, he is said that they are confident that both of their drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will fight in
the last eight rounds in order to challenge the 2011 championship.
Talking to reporters, Neale stated, “The only way we are able to do that when the competition is as tight as it is, is to keep our drivers focused on taking every opportunity that they can and for us in the team to get behind them and say we will work on
the reliability and give them confidence in the systems.”
He went on to mention, “You are always on a knife-edge with performance. If you play it safe you make the car reliable, but you're not quick, when you're playing catch-up you have to take risks and occasionally you stretch the systems to the point where
something breaks.”
Neale told the media that both of their drivers are eager to race in the upcoming Belgium Grand Prix taking place on August 28, 2011.
After taking part in 11 rounds of the ongoing season, McLaren are sitting at the second place with a gap of 103 points from Red Bull in the 2011 constructors’ championship.
The current top-runners are ready to fight in the last stages of the ongoing season in order to challenge the 2011 title.
