McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton Returns Happy from Valencia after Finishing 2nd at European Grand Prix
McLaren have yet another weekend to celebrate, and this time the celebrations are doubled as they got the victory unexpectedly. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, who had finished the last two races at first place successively, was able to finish at second place once again. It is, of course, another story that the finish had been filled with controversies and gossips following his penalty in the race.
Still, the fact cannot be ignored that the British team driver was very strong in the qualifying laps as well. The win was even special for the team as they had not made any major upgrades in their cars for this race, as they announced it for the upcoming race at Silverstone this month, and yet, Hamilton was able to pull his MP4-25 at a pace faster than expected, adding eighteen points to his belt.
Following the race, he wrote on his official website that the weekend had been a very interesting one, and despite the penalty, he has returned from Spain very happy. He said that the race had been another great experience of the season, as he enjoyed the hard-charging afternoon thoroughly.
Hamilton led McLaren to one-two finish in Canada and Turkey, finishing first in both races, and also tried to pull very hard to make the European GP his third consecutive victory; however, the penalty did not allow him to beat Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. However, despite his second place finish, he is able to hold his top position at the season standing with a total of one hundred and twenty seven points. His team also leads the constructors’ standing with a total of two hundred and forty eight points, thirty points ahead of Red Bull, which stands second.
Before the Valencia race started, most of the teams announced that they had made significant technological advancements in their cars. However, Hamilton commented that despite the fact that McLaren were not able to make any big changes in their cars, he had still not been scared by the pace of the other teams. He said that on the first qualifying session on Friday, they felt a little concerned, as suddenly it seemed that a lot of cars were faster than them, but later on the final race day, he said that he was able to run his car faster than many others. He also told that he was thrilled with the way he was passing beyond all others. He initially went past Mark Webber of Red Bull, who was expected to have one of the fastest cars of the race. He also added that had it not been the unlucky incident of losing off the footplate and later the front wing, as that affected the balance of the car, he might have been able to go past Sebastian Vettel, the other Red Bull driver as well.
However, he added that he was happy with his finish and had no regrets after the race.
The team is expected to have their cars improved technically before the next race, the British Grand Prix. Hamilton’s fans expect to see a great racing spectacle from him, as he was able to stand second with the unrevised version of car. Hamilton is also in great form this season, and his followers are looking forward to more great finishes from him the rest of the season.
