McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton aims for pole position after some improvements to his “bat mobile”
The Batman of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton, was the fastest man on track after the second Friday practice session and after a strong 2nd place finish in the first practice session. He stated that the car is working extremely well at the Yas Marina
Bay Circuit in Abu Dhabi and that his car or should we say “bat mobile” is working perfectly.
As the Abu Dhabi grand prix is the final race of the 2010 season, the drivers’ championship is about to reach its climax but the end of the 2010 Formula 1 season is not as simple as it seems. The situation is quite complicated and complex but exhilarating
at the same time.
With four competitors actively competing for the 2010 drivers’ title, Fernando Alonso is currently leading the pack with 246 points followed by the two Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel with 238 and 231 points respectively.
However, they are not alone as the “Batman” follows them with 222 points and since there are still 25 points up for the grabs, Lewis Hamilton still has a chance of winning the 2010 drivers’ title but his chances seemed bleak before the two practice sessions
on Friday.
Since Lewis Hamilton is the fastest man in Abu Dhabi currently, he believes that he will be able to qualify in at least the front row for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and therefore swing through the race like Batman and grab the title.
McLaren was struggling to execute the upgrades they planned since the past couple of grand prix but according to Lewis Hamilton, the new parts are finally starting to show their true colours.
“We've been hoping for some time to improve our revised rear wing. It hasn't really been working fully since we first tested it at Suzuka, so we've not been able to use it to its fullest extent. We knew that it had potential though - and to have it finally
working properly is a huge plus for us”, said Hamilton.
However, he is aware that the Red Bulls are not going to let him take a front row position in the qualifying session that easily but since he finished 3 tenths of a second faster than Sebastian Vettel, who finished in second place, McLaren will definitely
have the upper hand.
“The car feels good, so I'm hopeful for a good qualifying result tomorrow afternoon. Of course, it will be tough, because the Red Bulls tend to pull out half a second in Q3, but our pace is closer to theirs than it's ever been”, he added.
With the help of his teammate “Robin” (Jenson Button), Lewis Hamilton believes that they finally have the right package to challenge the fastest teams on track and McLaren certainly has a very good chance of winning the title.
Team boss, “Lucious Fox” (Martin Whitmarsh) echoed the Batman’s statement as he also believes that the team is more determined than ever and even though the situation directs against McLaren, the team is looking strong and they are willing to perform aggressively
and use all their weapons at the grand finale.
“Last year, this race was 'the one that got away' from us following Lewis's early mechanical retirement after leading the opening laps. Now, the whole team will be looking to make up for that with victory this weekend - that's very much our aim”, said the
team boss.
Since Lewis set the best times during the second practice session in Abu Dhabi, the team will move on for the race with their heads high with the upper hand over their rivals the “Riddler” (Fernando Alonso), “Penguin” (Mark Webber), and last but not least,
the “Joker” (Sebastian Vettel).
