McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton confident for 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is confident for the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after qualifying in second position for the raceday.
Hamilton said that he believes the team has a good pace at the moment and that they can beat Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel in the Abu Dhabi race, which will take place on Sunday, November 13 at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The team driver took a strong start to the 2011 Abu Dhabi race weekend, as he managed a third position in FP1 and the top place in the next two practice sessions. After that, he was 0.141 seconds off the pace of Vettel and managed to secure his second position
for Sunday’s race in the end of Q3.
The Brit added that he thinks McLaren have the pace and that now he is looking forward to their better results in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Talking to reporters, Hamilton commented, “For me, I've not done that many good long runs in practice in P2 for a couple of races now, so to get a good decent stint in which is consistent is a good step for me, so hopefully that will help us.”
He went on to mention, “With racing a lot of it is mental. Even if you think you're ready, subconsciously you might not be. This weekend I feel fresh, clean in my mind. I've stayed out of trouble which makes a huge difference and adds to your confidence,
and then you just roll with it.”
The 2008 world champion discussed his qualifying round of the Abu Dhabi GP and stated that he is sure he will be in a good position during the raceday, as he is feeling strong himself for the Grand Prix at the moment.
On the other hand, his teammate Jenson Button is also confident for the Abu Dhabi race. He mentioned that they are quite good in terms of pace at the moment and that he is looking forward to the Grand Prix after securing third position for the raceday.
Let’s see how the McLaren duo perform during Sunday’s race following their positive Q3 at the Yas Marina Circuit.
