McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton is ready for difficult Mercedes challenge – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton, who currently drives for McLaren, has stated that he is ready to take on the difficult challenge presented by the Mercedes team.
Hamilton will be leaving McLaren at the end of this season to replace Michael Schumacher at Mercedes.
Explaining his move to the Mercedes works team, Hamilton said, “I wanted to do something different. I wanted a new challenge and have done for quite some time. There were a lot of assumptions from people. I think Martin [Whitmarsh] assumed I would be staying,
so when I made the call to him it was very tough and very emotional. Emotions were here... the mind thinking there. The heart was fighting the mind but I was in a comfortable place and just said: 'Let's do it.'”
Hamilton admitted that losing a race is always agitating whether you are in a front running team like McLaren or any other team. He has learnt to deal with failures after spending so many years with McLaren. He thinks that that losing does not matter as
you are eventually to win if you keep struggling. He explained he has taken the decision keeping in mind the future of his career as the rules change in 2014 which will be like starting all over again.
He told that he could have taken the easy decision and stayed with his current team but that is not what he wants as he is looking for a change, a new challenge. Mercedes is exactly that since the team has been under speculation for not scoring points recently.
Hamilton’s aim is to work hard for his new team and help them get past their struggling times. He is determined about winning races for them which is going to be a cause of satisfaction for him.
Hamilton has been with McLaren his entire career; winning his first championship with them as well. The team plans to bid him a warm farewell while his future teammate Nico Rosberg is very pleased that he is joining Mercedes.
The McLaren driver is also hopeful about filling the gaping hole that Schumacher will be leaving after his retirement.
