McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton not worried about the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was one of the top runners of the 2010 drivers’ title until the Hungarian Grand Prix where he retired and faced a series of retirements after in the coming weekends. This caused him to lose a
lot of vital points and furthermore lose his championship lead to Mark Webber initially, who succeeded in increasing the deficit even further.
The British driver was able to score some good points after that but since he retired out of three races, his rivals took full advantage and scored maximum points during this time. Therefore, the lead between the leaders
and Lewis grew even more, disabling the McLaren driver to recover. Lewis Hamilton has been trying his best and it is quite clear that he is trying to be as aggressive as he can be but it seems that his car is letting him down race after race. Team McLaren
has been able to introduce some very important upgrades but it seems that they were just not enough to challenge the title.
The two-time champion is the least likely driver out of the top 4 who still have a chance of winning the Drivers’ title this year, but he is still anxious to race in Abu Dhabi.
"I've been in the hunt for the world championship at the final race of the season on two previous occasions, so I know all about the pressure you feel when the title is almost within touching distance,” said Hamilton.
It seems that the odds are totally against Lewis as he is 24 points behind the championship leader Fernando Alonso currently and he only has a shot of winning the title if he wins the race, Fernando doesn’t score any points,
Mark Webber finishes in less than 5th place while his teammate Sebastian Vettel finishes in 3rd or lower position. It is pretty much impossible that things happen according to Lewis’s wish in this particular scenario, but
since Formula 1 is one of the most unpredictable sports in the world, anything can happen.
Lewis feels that this season is a bit different from the past couple of seasons due to some reason. However, he is not feeling any pressure before going into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend as he has faced similar situations
in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
“That's not to say I'm going into the race weekend feeling any less determined or motivated. We've seen before that this championship can be unpredictable and volatile, and I think this last race of the year could be even
more unpredictable than normal,” he added.
Fernando Alonso is currently leading the 2010 drivers’ standings by 246 points followed by Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel with 238 and 231 points respectively while the McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is a major 24 points
adrift of the leader.
“I know from personal experience that the championship isn't over until you cross the line on the final lap, so I'll not only make sure I'm up there at the end, but pushing hard until the very end. It's going to be a brilliant
spectacle, and a great event for Formula 1 fans around the world,” said the British racer.
The grand finale at Yas Marina circuit is going to be epic as the top 4 drivers will battle it out for one last time this year in order to secure the drivers’ title. Since McLaren lost the constructors’ title to Red Bull
at the Brazilian Grand Prix quite brutally after Red Bull scored a 1-2 finish, McLaren will have to keep its cool and head to the final race positively.
