McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton once again vows to fight for 2011 title – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has once again vowed to fight for the 2011 championship despite his disappointing result in the recently held European Grand Prix.
After a below par race weekend in Valencia, Hamilton declared that he will never ‘give-up’ in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he was again unable to achieve his goal in Europe.
The Brit seemed to be struggling for his podium finish from the start of Valencia race weekend. He was 46 seconds slower than the race winner Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and ended up at the fourth place for the team.
After the race, the team driver said that he and his team can never give up in the upcoming race weekends. However, he said that he is not looking forward to win another race, as he claimed that they are not good enough to compete with current competitors.
He also discussed the upcoming British Grand Prix and added that if the team still wants to win race, then they will have to improve their 2011 car.
The 26-year-old driver mentioned, “Aerodynamically I think we need an improvement for Silverstone because we're not moving forward and that's what we need to be concentrating on. I do know of some new parts that are coming but I think we need more.”
He went on to add, “We need to take some risks because behind us is a big gap, in this race [Valencia] anyway, to the Mercedes, the Ferraris are in front of us and the Red Bulls are miles away. I don't really have any expectations. I hope that we can finish
ahead of one of the Ferraris there. That would be a positive.”
Hamilton further stated that if McLaren bring better upgrades in the upcoming Silverstone race weekend, then he can win the race over there. He added that he can beat strong teams including Red Bull and Ferrari, if he has a perfect and fast car.
His teammate Jenson Button finished his race at the sixth pace for the team in Valencia recently. Button was dissatisfied with the race results, as he was looking for another race victory in Europe following a positive race weekend in Canada.
Despite both the drivers’ performance at the Valencia Street Circuit, the team boss Martin Whitmarsh is still expecting an improved progress from their drivers in the remainder of the season.
The ninth round of this season will take place on July 10, 2011 at the Silverstone race circuit. Let’s see how the team manages their run over there.
