McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton says Red Bull is just a ‘drinks’ company – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was linked to a possible move to the Red Bull Racing team in the future according to some recent reports since McLaren’s performance is deteriorating with due time but the 2008 Formula 1 champion ruled out these speculations and
denied such rumours.
He questioned Red Bull’s longevity as he believes that Ferrari and McLaren have a history while Red Bull just entered the sport a couple of years ago.
Christian Horner stated sometime ago that Lewis Hamilton is not going to be happy if he goes through another winless season this year and as a result, Hamilton also confirmed that he needs more than one title in the future with the team.
“It's a drinks company (Red Bull) versus McLaren/Ferrari history. I don't know what their plan is. Our team is building to become a bigger manufacturer, like Ferrari, and I can only see our team being there for a ridiculous amount of time. It is a pure-bred
racing team,” he told the media.
Hamilton added that despite the fact that McLaren is facing a lot of problems this year in terms of reliability, the team is more consistent as compared to Red Bull as they might not be the strongest outfit in the years to come.
Nevertheless, the British driver claims that he is 100 percent certain that neither McLaren nor Ferrari will ever let their main drivers join Red Bull in the future and in order to do that, they would produce much better cars as compared to Red Bull Racing.
“They [Red Bull] have not been there as long as our teams. Our teams have got status they would like to keep. For many, many years it has been McLaren and Ferrari at the front and now we have got a new team that has come and knocked us off the top,” he said.
Hamilton further stated that he is really certain that both Ferrari and McLaren will do everything they can to make sure that they remain on top in Formula 1 consistently.
Other than that, Red Bull’s Mark Webber went through some major problems in 2010 when the team gave more preference to his teammate Sebastian Vettel according to the Aussie. He compared his situation with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso’s when they were
together in McLaren and went through similar problems.
Hamilton on the other hand added that Red Bull are clearly the number 1 team but just from the outside. He said the inside matters of the team are not visible and according to Mark’s statements in 2010 regarding the team’s attitude towards him, it seems
that Red Bull Racing team might not be as good as they look according to the 2008 world champion.
