McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton says race matters more after taking pole for 2011 Korean GP – Formula 1
Lewis Hamilton of Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes topped the qualifiers at the 2011 Korean Grand Prix on Saturday, October 15, 2011 and said that he is very happy but it is the race on Sunday that matters the most to him.
This is McLaren’s first pole of the season, and Hamilton has really been looking forward to getting a pole for long time now. The McLarens have a very competitive car which is evident from their recent performances.
McLaren’s technical team has constantly been improving and making improvements whenever felt necessary to deliver a car that produces optimal results on-track.
The 26-year-old Brit who has received repeated criticism for his aggressive driving style, and has been given five drive-through penalties in this season for his on-track accidents, plans to slightly revise his strategy for Sunday’s race.
With his recent success at the qualifiers at Korea, the Briton is believed to put up a fierce fight on the circuit and grab a podium finish. With that said, it is very important for Hamilton to concentrate on his race start, an area where Hamilton has been
lagging.
Hamilton said, “We've been working to improve our starts, and I hope we can convert pole into the lead tomorrow. The grand prix's going to be tough, and it'll be difficult to beat the two guys starting immediately behind me, but I hope to keep the lead and
control the race in a responsible way. I now want to put all my energy into the race.”
The Woking-based team has always had great confidence in its drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton and the team is still very optimistic that their drivers will come out successful at the race at Yeongam despite tough competition from Red Bull and Ferrari.
Let’s see how Hamilton performs at Sunday’s race at the Korea International Circuit.
Whether he actually is able to convert his pole into a win at the 2011 Korean Grand Prix, we are yet to see.
