McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton says team must focus on 2012 car – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his team must focus on the setup of 2012 year’s car and make it more competitive in order to challenge the championship.
Hamilton added that he is confident to stay with the team until the end of his contract with them.
The Brit talked to the media and mentioned that he is positive about his place within himself at the moment. He also stated that the things are getting better and better for him with the passage of time and he is confident he will be a part of his team until
the end of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The team driver made a lot of mistakes throughout the 2011 championship. Apart from that, he had a lot of contacts with Ferrari driver Felipe Massa in the most races of the season.
Hamilton commented, “I'm at a positive place within myself. Things are getting better, and I just want to continue on this path because it would be good. I don't think there's any question of my commitment to the team, so there's no real rush to have to
do anything. I'll just focus on the year.”
The 2008 world champion further added that he will just focus on their next year’s performance and tried to avoid doing mistakes, which he made in the 2011 F1 season.
He went on to mention, “Martin has already spoken to me about re-signing, so I know it's there at some point, and I guess at some stage when we have time we'll sit down (to discuss it further). But the most important thing is to focus on the season ahead.”
The Woking-based outfit driver had a good start to recently held Brazilian Grand Prix. He finished the practice sessions in the decent manner. After the successful practice sessions, Hamilton secured fourth place for the Sunday’s race.
The raceday at the Sao Paulo racetrack declared as unlucky for Hamilton, as he retired from the race after completing 46 laps due to gearbox issue.
McLaren driver ended the 2011 F1 season at the fifth position with 227 points in the drivers’ standings.
Let’s see how Hamilton performs in the 2012 winter test sessions for McLaren.
