McLaren’s managing director Jonathan Neale believes Lewis Hamilton will stick to McLaren – Formula 1
McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale has said that he does not feel that the team’s operational errors will motivate Lewis Hamilton to leave McLaren.
Hamilton’s contract ends with the team at the end of the 2012 season. There are quite a few possible openings in teams like Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes and speculations have grown that Hamilton might look to other teams.
The driver himself has not made any such statements or hints but the recent disappointing results in the recent races of the 212 season have led to former drivers to predict that the Brit might be looking to move.
Neale told that the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in that the last two races should not be taken as the focus of his performances but his overall performance with the team should be viewed. The long-term ability of where the Brit is going to be comfortable
in the future is very important as well.
“We've said quite clearly that we'd like Lewis to continue racing for us and Lewis has said he'd like to continue racing for us. We've got plenty of time and we don't need to make that decision until much later this year and actually you have to look at
the performance of the team in the long term relative to other teams and I think we stand fairly well placed. But I'm not going to walk away from the fact that we do have to continue to work hard to eliminate the mistakes and find the upgrades in performance,”
he said.
Hamilton although has not been as successful in the season so far as he would have liked to but such is the competitiveness this season that there have been six different winners out of six Grands Prix so far in the season. That has led to drivers still
able to aim for the top spot even after the first quarter of the season is over.
It will be interesting to see how Hamilton progresses in the season. It might also be crucial to his tenure with the team beyond 2012.
The next race is scheduled for June 10, 2012 at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The track is known for its high speed corners and long straights.
