McLarens pace not disturbing Red Bull Racing at German Grand Prix practice session – Formula 1 news
McLaren exhibited an impressive pace during the German Grand Prix weekend and topped the first practice session, but it is not a sign of problem for the Red Bull Racing team.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing admits that McLaren were fast during the practice session and they were unable to attain that speed. He added that this was not the reason to worry about.
Vettel said, “They looked very competitive this morning, no doubt. We couldn't go that pace, but we were not entirely happy this morning.”
The German driver further added that the same thing happened with McLaren in Silverstone and later they had a bad weekend.
The defending champion further added, “It's a Friday, and it's difficult to draw conclusions. [McLaren] looked competitive at Silverstone on the Friday as well and then their weekend was not so good. We have to wait and see tomorrow.”
On the other hand, Mark Webber, teammate of Vettel, is of the view that the weather plays an important role during the race and drivers have to plan the energy they have to put in during the race. He added that it is due to this reason that drivers are very
inconsistent with their times. Moreover, he believes that the practice session was fully utilised by his team.
The Australian said, “We can't control the weather, and it's tricky for everyone to work out where to put your energy and set-up time. When the track is moving around this much, every lap basically, the laptimes are all over the place and people are very
inconsistent with their times.”
Red Bull is currently leading the constructors’ championship whereas, McLaren is at the fourth place. On the circuit, RB8 is one of the fastest cars in the current season.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren was able to get the first position during free practice two in Silverstone. In the qualifying round, the British driver dropped to 8th grid position and he managed to finish the race at the same spot.
Let’s see how McLaren and Red Bull Racing fare on the raceday.
