Aston Villa Chairman, Randy Lerner, broke the news of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish’s departure from the side on the club’s official website explaining that the manager never instilled “a sense of confidence” in his team.
Aston Villa live to fight another day in the Barclays Premier League although it could have been a completely different story as the club found themselves flirting with relegation for significant parts of the season.
McLeish was brought in as a replacement for Martin O’Neil, in a move that the Aston Villa fans never really took to the new man in-charge, who incidentally was the former manager of Villa’s bitterest of rivals, Birmingham City.
The club chairman, Andy Lerner, took to the club’s official website to release the following statement:
“We need to be clear and candid with ourselves and with supporters about what we have lacked in recent years.” Began the chairman, before highlighting the major reason for McLeish’s departure, "Compelling play and results that instil a sense of confidence
that Villa is on the right track have been plainly absent.”
Looking ahead to the future, Lerner announced that they were not going to rush any decision for a new manager but were going to carefully examine all the options present.
He said, "The most immediate action that we can take is to look carefully at our options in terms of bringing in a new manager who sees the club's potential and embraces our collective expectations."
Lerner was not alone in speaking to the Aston Villa fans, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Faulkner, the Chief Executive of the club, also made a public announcement, in which he basically assured fans that they would do whatever they could to ensure Villa reach the levels they
ought to be competing at.
"The board wishes to assure supporters that we are conscious in every sense that Villa expects and deserves more and we will strive to deliver this."
Aston Villa were saved by a two point margin and were not safe until the last game of the season. In fact, it was the club’s goal difference that saw them have a slight advantage over the other clubs struggling at the bottom of the table.
