Question:

Mccains vs. obama?

both candidates have their own opinion on what to do about the current energy crisis in america, but why cant american combine the two policies. Mccain and republicans want more drilling and obama and democrats want alternative energy sources. Obama always blast mccain for wanting off shore drilling which will take 5-7 years to get oil from off shore into our gas tanks. That sounds like a long time, but it may take decades for american technology to mass produce electric and biofuel vehicles. Why cant we pump oil now and ease the price of gas within 7 years, then when technology is upgraded switch to alternative fuels and energy in 10-15 years. Its a win win correct, we have a short term answer and a long term answer, seems to me thats the way to go. Also what is obama plan for alternative energy, he doesnt want fossil fuels and doesnt want nuclear, so is america just going to have a bunch of solar panels and windmills all over the place?

  2. We've done this energy thing before.  In the 70's energy crisis, what saved our butt was conservation.  Bush has said that "there is no instant solution to the energy crisis".  Bull.  Put the 55 MPH signs up on the highways today, and tomorrow, we get 10% to 15% reduction in fuel consumption. It's a big deal. Oh, and fewer deaths.

My car gets 44 MPG.  But when the engine dies, i could replace it with a turbo diesel and get over 60 MPG.  This is tech we already have.  This is tech that pays for itself.

If i put more insulation in my house, the bills go down, and the insulation pays for itself.  And the fuel saved can be 50%.  The low hanging fruit is still there waiting for us.  We're a long way from needing to open up the wilderness preserve to the oil companies.

If i install a passive solar water heater on my roof, it heat my house and hot water, and pays for itself.  There are lots of ideas like this.  The consumer may not have the cash or expertise up front.  This is an opportunity for small businesses to enter.  Line up loans.  Develop installation expertise.  Do a little advertising.  Expand.  It's like free money.

McCain doesn't care about you or the environment. It's about money.

  3. I have a few reasons why I don't want oil companies to drill offshore.

1- it will destroy an already fragile ecosystem.

2- if we have the hope of cheap fuel we as a nation are less likely to put a great effort into renewable or clean energy.

3- there is no gurarantee it will help gas prices. I'm not sure about the details, but domestic oil seems to be purchased at the same price as any other oil, so how is it going to reduce the price at the pump.

We have had the technology to dramatically reduce our dependance on oil, but until the price at the pump went over $4 noone seemed to care. We need to move toward other options.

  4. It would be too easy to combine the best parts out of everybodys campaign!  Maybe you should run for President!!  You'll have my vote!

  5. foward this to everyone in congress, they are the ones holding this stuff up

  6. McCain wants more drilling, but the rebuttal from the other side is that it would take up to ten years to make a difference. However, this back and forth has been going on for far more than ten years. If the drilling would have begun ten years ago we wouldn't be in trouble today. If we start drilling now we won't be in trouble ten years from now. To me the excuse that it will not help short term is stupidity, if we wait it will not help long term either.

Renewable energy is also a long term solution, and, will not help short term. Short term it will hurt. Example, ethanol will require feed crops be refined into fuel, and, the price of food will rise, the proof is there at every visit to the market. Short term we are in it now, but we would not be if the so called leaders would have acted when there was still time. In my opinion we need to clean house and replace the so called leaders we presently have on both sides ,or, we get what we deserve.

  7. McCain!

  8. idk.....but obama all the way!
